Hey y’all, Happy Wedding Wednesday!!
What a crazy time to be alive huh? With the coronavirus and quarantine, who would’ve thought anyone would choose to get married during this? Well, as many of you know, Henry & I have planned our wedding for the last year & half to take place on our 4 year anniversary (not to mention that we knew our wedding date 4 years ago when we became bf & gf (read more about it here.) which fell on 4/4/2020. Due to the circumstance, we found out about 3 weeks ago that our venue would be closing their doors for the next 8 weeks which means we’d have to postpone the big day we had our hearts on. As heartbreaking as the news was, we knew it was for the best to keep ourselves & our family & friends safe.
With that being said, we did not allow Covid-19 to ruin our plans. Henry & I chose to still get married on our original date, at our brand new house that we closed on literally days before with our closest family & friends tune in via Zoom. Shoutout to technology! As you can imagine it was a very VERY intimate ceremony of 5 (myself, Henry, our officiant and 2 of our best friends who handled the photography & streaming). So many of you sent me questions for details on how this corona style wedding went so I’m here to answer them all below. 🙂
Q: How many people attended?
A: 5 in-person + the 75+ who tuned in online
Q: When did you decide to get married in this unique way?
A: About 3 – 4 weeks ago when things started getting worse, we figured there was a high chance of postponing so we thought of a backup plan.
Q: Was this always your backup plan?
A: No!! We originally were going to do a small ceremony but then things got worse so we scratched that idea and knew it would not be smart or safe to ask family & friends to come.
Q: Was your backup plan to always get married in your new house?
A: No! Actually, we were going to do a park that has significance to us or we were going to rent out a small room for an hour but again, things continued to get worse by the day & our stay at home mandate was extended so that idea was scratched. But it’s okay because our house worked out PERFECTLY!
Q: How many times did you have to change your plans?
A: LOL, probably 3. We went from our dream wedding to a small wedding with close family & friends to just us 2 at a park or 1-hour venue to our house.
Q: Who decorated/made the backdrop?
A: It was my mom’s intention to decorate and make the day as special as she could so she used her wooden backdrop with white linens & our florist sent one of her guys to install the flowers & candles. It was just him & he wore gloves & a mask! We were sure to be safe throughout all of this.
Q: Who took your photos?
A: Ware The Heart Is Photography! He did AMAZING.
Q: Did you walk down any type of aisle?
A: Funny you ask! Henry wanted me to walk down our stairs but I said NO lol. Well when I arrived at the house, I saw the stairs had been decorated due to there being leftover material so I did and I’m glad I did! 🙂
Q: Was that your original wedding dress you wore?
A: NOOO. Still saving my dress for the big day. What I wore was a very last-minute purchase. 😉
Q: Where was your dress from?
A: Lulu’s!
Q: Can you tell us which dress you got?
A: Even better, I’ll link it here.
Q: When did you get your new dress?
A: Literally days before! I ordered it on a Monday, it arrived Wednesday & I wore it Saturday.
Q: Did you have a bouquet?
A: Originally my mom asked if I wanted one & I said no, no, no. But our amazing florist Maria from Maxit still made me one & she also made Henry a boutonniere as a gift. *cries in happiness*. I’m so happy she did this for us! It made the whole experience that much more special.
Q: Were you emotional?
A: The day was obviously not what I planned for AT ALL so it was a very normal, kinda odd day for me to be honest. But once I walked down the stairs & saw Henry get emotional, it hit me. :’)
Q: Why didn’t you have your dad at least walk you down the aisle?
A: I would have LOVED to have that but if I had him then I wouldn’t feel right not having my mom and if I had my parents then we’d have to invite Henry’s parents & by the time you know it, we’re at X amount of people and it was already a lot to ask our officiant & photographer be there. We didn’t feel right having too many there.
Q: Did you do anything to make the day extra special?
A: Yes! We stayed at a hotel that night & Henry had them decorate the room with rose petals and champagne. Don’t worry, we were the only ones staying there and the hotel was taking extra safety precautions to ensure safety for all. We ordered a fancy take out dinner and Henry even got us a wedding cake! Aka cheesecake from The Cheesecake Factory. We definitely tried to make the best of it! See more behind the scenes on my stories.
Q: Are you still going to have the big wedding you planned for?
A: ABSOLUTELY! No doubt about it.
Q: What’s the new date for the wedding?
A: August! A whole 5 months away. Lol. *rolls eyes*
Q: Were you sad when you got the news that you’d have to postpone?
A: Sad is an understatement. I was heartbroken & devastated but I’m past that now. It was for the best & I am choosing to be positive (it took me 3 weeks, ha!) 🙂
Thanks to everyone who sent in their questions! If you have any more, feel free to comment down below or DM me on Instagram. I enjoyed writing this post and I’m so thankful for you all. Having this community lift me up or cheer me on during this rough time has helped me get through this. Clearly love conquers all and it cannot be stopped. Henry & I are extremely blessed to still have our day and get married with our closest family & friends tune in online. It has really put a perspective on life and we are just so lucky. Until August when we get a round 2. 😂
