Wedding Wednesday: Planning Update #1

It’s been 9 months since we got engaged, and I can’t believe I haven’t really shared any updates! I’ve shared quite a few vendors we’ve chosen, but I haven’t filled you in on where we’re at in our wedding planning process.

As many of you may know if you’ve read my previous posts, we have a date AND a venue! We scheduled a tour at my dream venue (notice how I said my because Henry could honestly care less lol) back in October and it was love at first sight. Read more about that here. Choosing the venue was by far the easiest decision I’ve had to make this whole wedding planning process. Although I knew it was perfect, we didn’t book it until maybe 2 months later? I was really set on choosing a wedding planner before anything. Read more about my wedding planner here. As for the date, that came easy. There’s a long story as to how it all worked out but the short story is, we’re getting married on our 4 year anniversary! I’ve always wanted just one date to celebrate so it’s really exciting to get married on the same date we became boyfriend & girlfriend. With all that being said, we have just 8-ish months left until we say I Do!

Standing outside our venue after touring

After choosing our wedding planner, venue and officially setting the date, we enjoyed the holidays, celebrated our birthdays and did not think about planning. Once February came, the planning started once again. I met my planner for lunch one day and we sorted out what was next and that was entertainment. She suggested to start looking & booking those who cannot be in the two places at once. For example, strings, DJ, photographer, videographer, etc. I went to two bridal expo’s in January and was able to meet a lot of great vendors. After research, I knew of a few who I wanted to meet with. But first was looking for a dress! Can you believe I was 5 months in and had not started the search for a dress yet!? I really took my time y’all. Every single weekend in March I had several dress appointments. The search for my dream dress took a couple of months so in between I had my first food tasting and also met and booked a videographer in April. I also met with two photographers but just could not decide who to go forward with. I’m really picky when it comes to photos so I was set on choosing someone who had shot at my venue before. That was pretty tough to find and when I did find it, I either wasn’t crazy about their work or they were waaay out of my price range. So I did what I do best an that’s to put a pause on it and book the ceremony & reception entertainment. (lol) After going to several bridal expo’s months prior, I knew who I wanted to play strings and DJ my wedding. That’s the great thing about expo’s and soiree’s, you too could hear a quartet or DJ you really like and feel confident when booking them. So that’s planner, venue, date, videographer, strings, and DJ checked off the list by April.

Just some of our tasting

In the month of May, I’m happy to finally say I FOUND MY DRESS. That was such an exciting day and moment for me especially after feeling like the dress I had envisioned was not out there. I also finally booked a photographer this month. Things are looking pretty good if you ask me.

Right now we’re looking for someone to handle the flowers and decor. I have a few in mind but its a matter of 1. who fits in my price range & 2. who can bring my vision to life and 3. who can help me with what my vision even is (LOL). We also are ready to finalize with a catering company and start tastings for our cake. We have plans to shoot engagement photos in September and have them sent out a month later + choose our invites. The goal is to be completely done with the wedding planning process by October. That leaves us with 6 months to plan our honeymoon, pick suits & dresses for the bridal party, finalize our bach parties and find a home to live in together + all the small details like gifts for the bridal party, plan a rehearsal dinner and more. So yeah, it’s a lot. TGFMYP (Thank God for my wedding planner!!!)

I hope you enjoyed reading where I’m at in the wedding planning process. I’ll definitely start sharing these type of update posts every couple of months to keep you in the loop! Let me know if you’d like details on who my vendors are and/or how I chose them or if you want the long story on how we got our date!
Xx, Es <3
