5 Simple Ways to Help Save The Earth

Happy Earth Day!

What a day to be alive and have a holiday where we honor the earth that allows us to do all things like breath, eat, love & exist. As some of you may know, I’ve decided to make small changes in my life to help save this planet we live on. This journey began for me less than a year ago but I plan to keep it going. This is something I wish I would have started forever ago but hey, better late than never am I right?

I believe it’s so important to take care of mother earth, but with that comes the education of environmental issues that are happening every day. It’s important for people to be aware of the critical actions we need to take to protect our environment. Next is to commit yourself to service. They may come hard if you’ve never thought about this so I’m here to share 5 simple ways to help save the earth.

  1. Recycle – Recycling is such a great habit to start and can be done ANYWHERE. From your home to work and even out & about! Do you print a lot of paper at work? Probably so. Don’t just throw it away but throw it in the recycle bin. Most companies offer recycle bins but if yours doesn’t, I recommend to ask HR for one! While at home, go the extra mile, get an extra bin & make it for recyclable items like bottles, plastic & paper. Read more about what you should & shouldn’t recycle here.
  2. Invest in a Reusable Cup – Whether you’re a coffee, tea or water lover, swap out that plastic bottle/cup for something you can reuse over and over. How many of you all love to go to Starbucks on the daily? Imagine the impact you can make not using 7 cups and lids a week that could turn into over 300 over the course of a year!! some of my favorite reusable cups can be found here, here or here.
  3. Paper > Plastic Straws – My favorite change I’ve made yet! So many hotels, restaurants and more have decided to stop using plastic straws which is AMAZING and all thanks to people like YOU who are stepping up to make the change. They’ve swapped out the plastic for paper which I think is great but for some, they just aren’t feeling the paper straws. Which is understandable because they, of course, will not last as long as a plastic one should BUT what I recommend is a straw of your own! You can take it anywhere including the places who haven’t made the change yet. Some of my favorites are from U Konserve. This company is more than just cute packaging. They believe and stand for so much & their items are ridiculously affordable (& cute if I may add).
  4. Use Earth-Friendly Cleaning Products – Many like myself have not really thought about the products we clean our home with. If you’re having to wear gloves and are being advised to not breathe in the fumes, then that should be a sign that what we’re using is not a healthy option. My favorite brand is Mrs.Meyers. It can be bought online, Target, Amazon and many other places AND it’s affordable. did you know every hand soap purchased = 1 Endangered Plant, Planted? Talk about amazing!
  5. Plant a Tree – Trees clean the air, mitigate runoff, cool the surroundings and beautify our neighborhoods. If you live in Houston, check out TreesforHouston.org where you can volunteer and help plant a tree!

I want to reassure you that it’s all about baby steps! Many think their impact isn’t helping but I can’t tell you how false that statement is. You indeed are helping by doing something as small as the 5 suggestions I listed above. Friendly reminder: This is the only home we have. So let’s take care of it! Let me know if you would like me to share some other ways I’ve decided to help save our earth. I would be more than happy to share!
