Hi, loves & Happy Wednesday!
Wow, it’s been over a month since I’ve done some wedding talk and I’m so sorry for being MIA on this series! My day job is kinda hectic and gets the best of me but I’m back with a new post and it’s one I couldn’t wait to share! This is in the top 5 questions I get from girls and that is “to get a wedding planner or not?”
Let me start by saying, this decision is ultimately up to you. If you truly feel like you can plan and execute your wedding without an extra hand then go for it! If you’re anything like me, someone who is constantly busy, feeds off of advice & doesn’t want to worry about anything the day of other then being on time then I say yes, a wedding planner is probably best for you.
Questions to ask yourself when thinking of hiring a wedding planner:
- Do I work a full-time job?
- If the answer is yes then think about how much time outside of work you will have to dedicate to planning a wedding. Remember, most vendors can only meet with you during the week. Do you really want to use all of your PTO meeting with vendors? I think not!
- If the answer is no then 1. jealous lol 2. yay! You most likely have time to dedicate to answering phone calls, sending emails, requesting quotes, meeting with vendors and more!
- Do I have outside help? (I.e. mom, mother of the groom, knowledgeable friends, sisters, etc.)
- If the answer is yes then great! Extra hands are always needed but are those willing to help knowledgeable on whether to get up lights or not? Have they worked with these vendors before? Probably not and I would hate for a vendor to take advantage of you with pricing. (trust me, it will happen!) Wedding planners usually have built relationships from working with these vendors so they know their price and their competitor’s price.
- Am I having a destination wedding?
- Yes. Usually, destination weddings require some extra help because you most likely do not live there nor can you afford to travel back and forth just to plan. I would recommend at least a coordinator.
- If the answer is no then I would think that planning a wedding in a city you live in is definitely going to be a lot more do-able without the help of a planner.
- Do I know people who can refer me to reliable vendor recommendations?
- This is so important when planning a wedding. There are so many DJs, florist, decorators and more to choose from but on a special day like this, you really want to ensure you’re getting someone who really knows what they are doing and have experience.
- Maybe you have a ton of girlfriends who have gotten married and can tell you about their experience. Or maybe you’ve joined a local bride to be FB group where you can ask for advice and recommendations. If that’s the case, then I saw awesome! If you feel comfortable going that route, then I say do it!
- How long is my engagement?
- Whether the engagement is long or short, can it be done without a planner? Most definitely. Can a stress-free wedding be planned in 3 months? Probably not…
- Do I really know what I want?
- So important to ask yourself this! You may easily know how you want your wedding to look like because it’s so easy to envision anything. Making it come to life is the hard part.
After answering those questions, I hope it’s given you a clearer mind on whether to hire a wedding planner or not. At the end of the day, this decision is yours and it is an investment so start with thinking of a budget. Once you have that budget, reach out to a few and tell them what you’re looking for when it comes to helping, what you’re envisioning for your wedding and tell them how much you can afford. A wedding planner is there to help you make your special day come to life, they are not trying to take all of your money. I personally think that choosing the right wedding planner will actually help you save money.
Was this post helpful? Are you planning to get a wedding planner? Do you want to know if I decided to get a wedding planner or not? Stay tuned for next week!
